Teams and Roles
Travel Players/Teams
This season, we aim to field three travel teams, with 10-12 rostered players per team competing in tournaments.
Our planned age divisions are 14U, 16U, and 18U, generally structured as follows:
-
18U Team: Primarily 17U and 18U eligible athletes
-
16U Team: Primarily 15U and 16U eligible athletes
-
14U Team: Athletes 14U eligible and younger
Nickel City Volleyball reserves the right to adjust team age divisions and roster composition based on the number, age, and skill level of tryout participants. Our goal is to create the most competitive teams possible while providing an appropriate developmental environment for every athlete. All team placements and age classifications will remain in accordance with current USAV and WEVA eligibility guidelines.
Practice Players/Teams
Practice Team athletes participate in structured training sessions designed to improve volleyball fundamentals, game knowledge, athletic development, and overall confidence on the court. We plan for up to two practice teams per season, each with a maximum of 16 players. Players are grouped according to skill level to ensure appropriate instruction, maximize individual development, and provide a positive and challenging learning environment throughout the season.
Practice Team athletes may also have the opportunity to participate in up to two local scrimmage events or tournaments during the season. Participation in these events is completely optional. Teams will only be registered for an event if sufficient player interest and availability are confirmed.
Our Practice Team program provides athletes with an opportunity to continue developing their skills, gain valuable court experience, and, if interested, prepare for future opportunities within Nickel City's Travel Team program.
-
Note: players can be offered a role as a practice player on one of the travel teams. These players will train with the designated team throughout the season and contribute to a competitive practice environment but there is no tournament expectation or requirement.
Refer to the Roles and Fees and Teams pages for the most recent season's fees and schedules as reference.

The Western Empire Volleyball Association (WEVA) is a not-for-profit organization and a regional member of USA Volleyball (USAV), the national sports governing body for volleyball. Its purpose is to develop and promote the sport of volleyball, through adult, junior, and youth programs.
-
To participate in USAV programs (as a player, coach, manager, club or team rep, chaperone or administrator for any club or team) you must register as a member of USAV & WEVA. -
USAV age definitions are determined by the age the player will be on June 30th during the active season.
-
For USAV, the season eligibility runs from Sept 1st - Aug 31st. For the 2026 - 2027 season, a player's age division is based on how old they will be on June 30, 2027.
-
Age divisions are enforced in sanctioned competitions and tournaments. Teams and players can enter into older age divisions but cannot compete in younger divisions. [ex. a 16u player/team can play in the 18u division, but an 18u player/team cannot participate in the 15u division].
