What is WEVA and why do I have to join?

The Western Empire Volleyball Association (WEVA) is a not-for-profit organization and a regional member of USA Volleyball, the national sports governing body for volleyball. Its purpose is to develop and promote the sport of volleyball, through adult, junior, and youth programs.

To participate in USAV programs (as a player, coach, manager, club or team rep, chaperone or administrator for a club or team) you must register as a member of WEVA. This registration provides you with coverage under the USA Volleyball Insurance Program during your participation in sanctioned tryouts, practices, clinics, and tournaments, and while traveling as a group directly to and from USA Volleyball sanctioned events.

WEVA Membership options:

  • Junior Membership is $64.00 and covers you for the full club year (Nov 1 - Oct 31)
  • Tryout Membership is $15.00
    • Tryout Memberships provide coverage for club tryouts and any practices or clinics until Dec 31st. If you choose to accept a position on a team, you will need to upgrade to the Junior Membership to extend your membership by paying the $49 difference.
    • You must have a valid membership to continue participating in team practices, clinics or tournaments beyond Dec 31st.

WEVA memberships must be completed online and require a credit or debit card to complete the transaction. Visit the WEVA website to register or for more information.

What age division do I fall into?

Below are the 2018-2019 age guidelines per USA Volleyball:

     18U - Born on or after Sept. 1 2000
     17U - Born on or after Sept. 1 2001

     16U - Born on or after Sept. 1 2002
     15U - Born on or after Sept. 1 2003

     14U - Born on or after Sept. 1 2004

     13U - Born on or after Sept. 1 2005

     12U - Born on or after Sept. 1 2006

Players are expected to attend the tryout for their age as defined by USA Volleyball.

I tried out for another Club, is my WEVA membership still good?

If you already have an updated WEVA registration for the current season from tryouts at a different club, your membership is still valid!

You will need to bring a printed copy of your WEVA ID card as proof of membership to your tryout.

I completed my registration for WEVA, why do I need to pay a tryout fee?

Nickel City charges a separate tryout fee to cover facility use and other administrative costs required to run our tryouts.

WEVA/USAV membership is a requirement to participate in any club volleyball program across the country.
*WEVA fees are a separate cost and are not calculated into our Nickel City Volleyball club fees.

I already know I want to be a Practice Player or on the Training Squad, do I still need to attend a tryout?

Yes, even if you do not intend to participate in tournaments as a travel team player you will still need to attend tryouts. This will help us determine which team you will best fit with to continue to develop your skills.
